The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) lifted the mask mandate on June 17, but many people are still confused about what they should do and how they can protect themselves.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has praised Thais for continuing to wear face masks voluntarily, government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said on Saturday.

Passengers of BTS Skytrain are still required to wear face masks at all times on the mass transit system, despite the mask mandate being lifted on Friday.

An overwhelming majority of Thais say they will continue wearing face masks after mandatory face-covering is scrapped next month.

There is a high chance that the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will relax the mask mandate soon in Bangkok and Phuket, chief of the CCSA operation centre, Supoj Malaniyom, said.

The Commerce Ministry has instructed its provincial offices countrywide to check whether shops are breaking the law by selling overpriced face masks, said permanent secretary Boonyarit Kalayanamit.

The Internal Trade Department said it is confident that there will be enough masks to meet the rise in demand after the latest Covid-19 outbreak in Samut Sakhon and other provinces.

Government restrictions on face mask manufacturers were lifted today, allowing them to resume selling all their masks to trading partners as normal. Previously, manufacturers were required to earmark a huge number of masks for sale to the state first in a move imposed to fight the Covid-19 outbreak.
