The Phanoen Thung road improvement project in the country’s largest national park, Kaeng Krachan in Phetchaburi province, is having its controversial design revised.

Deputy Prime Minister General Chatchai Salikulya would not say directly if the plan to build the controversial Mae Wong dam in order to prevent floods and save the drought-plagued Lower Sakae Krang basin would be scrapped, but he affirmed that concerned parties had at least reached a “resolution” – for now.

“AT THE HEART of the success of wildlife conservation is the forest. With healthy forests and habitats, wild animals can survive. Such a principle is easily comprehensible even by those who do not have much knowledge.”

Work structure and benefits for forest rangers are being upgraded to help improve welfare and work conditions in what can be a dangerous job.
