Innovations highlighted at massive medical summit in Shanghai
Hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals from 150 countries and territories got up to date on the latest medical equipment and pharmaceuticals at the just-ended third annual Health Industry Summit held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai.
Mounted by Reed Sinopharm, a joint venture of event organiser Reed Exhibitions and Chinese medical-pharmaceutical group Sinopharm, the summit is one of the world’s largest health-industry gatherings. This year’s event covered 350,000 square metres and offered 160 separate events and conferences.
It coincided with the launch of the state’s “Healthy China 2030” initiative to, among other goals, increase average citizen lifespan by three years to 79 years by 2030.
The summit incorporated three exhibitions of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals and a major healthcare-investment forum organised by Reed Sinopharm, JP Morgan Asset Management, CICC and Sinopharm Capital. It drew more than 1,000 chief executives, investors and institutions.
The exhibitions covered the entire industry “value chain” and showcased tens of thousands of technological innovations and other products. Emerging technologies such as AI, VR, AR and wearables could be sampled and tested and the World Medical Robots Innovation and Development Summit was also part of the proceedings.
More than 7,000 private firms from 30 countries exhibited their wares and services at the show, including medical-device giants like GE, United Imaging, Siemens, Philips and Mindray, as well as major pharmaceutical groups in China such as Sinopharm, Shanghai Pharma and CR Pharmaceuticals. More than 600 new product were unveiled during the show.
The next summit is in April 2018, also in Shanghai.
