Two Chinese men arrested in Phuket for allegedly stealing ATM data

Police have arrested two Chinese men for allegedly using a skimmer device to steal ATM cards’ data and creating counterfeit cards to withdraw money from victims’ accounts in Phuket.

The two men were arrested at an ATM machine in front of a convenience store in Tambon Srisunthorn in Thlang district on Tuesday evening following complaints by banks on the island province.
Police searched the two men’s room at a hotel on Naiyang Beach and found two ATM skimming devices, four micro cameras, allegedly used to acquire ATM users’ passwords, and a notebook computer.
Thalang police said the men used the stolen data to make counterfeit ATM cards and the passwords they recorded with the spy cameras to withdraw money from victims’ accounts.
