The Appeals Court found no new justification or evidence to overturn the murder conviction against Pol Sub-Lt Chumphol Duangpradit, 50, formerly of the Border Patrol Police.
The court upheld the verdict that Chumphol killed Korntham In, an ex-boyfriend of Chumpol’s girlfriend Jiriyaporn (surname withheld) on January 10, 2015.
The court was told that Chumphol returned to the house on Soi Sukhothai 7 in Bangkok's Dusit district where he’d stayed with Jiriyaporn and found Korntham sleeping there. A fistfight ensued and Chumpol shot Korntham three times in the head with his 9mm pistol.
Chumphol argued that he’d fired in self-defence after Korntham, a larger man, tried to snatch his gun away.
The court ruled that the victim’s wounds and the existence of a clear motive indicated that the policeman acted with intent to kill.
