Chinese tourist drowns in rough seas off Phuket

The body of a Chinese tourist who ignored posted warnings of dangerous waves was on Wednesday morning retrieved from the sea off Phuket’s Kamala Beach.

Wei Peixin, 18, and two friends had gone swimming at the beach on Tuesday evening, defying red flag warnings of perilous conditions. They were soon in trouble amid high waves.
Rescuers were able to bring He Xianyu and Zhao Shihao back to shore, but Wei went missing.
Rescuers from the Kusol Dhamma Phuket Foundation searched for him for more than an hour but had to call off the effort due to strong waves and darkness.
Wei’s body was spotted in the morning, floating in the sea not far from the beach, and was retrieved by at 8am.
