Farmers worldwide urged to embrace innovation

Europe’s aged farm exhibition has called on farmers worldwide to embrace inventiveness over the next decade, with the goal of delivering innovations and new economic models.

Martine Degremont is director of Le Salon International de la Machine Agricole, or SIMA, a 94-year-old biennial exhibition which opened at Paris Nord Villepinte on Sunday.
She said this year’s edition was an opportunity to offer a new perspective on the jobs of farmers over the next 10 years, while remaining practically-minded and instigate meetings and dialogue with a focus on efficiency and business.
The event features the most up-to-date farm innovative-based technology and ideas ranging from farm-based digital technology such as a real-time farming weather platform, which won this year’s SIMA Innovation Awards.
It also features farm robotics such as driverless tractors, the introduction of the new economic model of bioecnonomy, as well as a start-up village featuring start-up projects to advance the farming sector.

The 2015 event drew over 230,000 entries from 142 countries.

An offshoot of the event, SIMA Asean Thailand, will again be held at Impact Muang Thong Thani in September.
The Paris event finishes on March 2.
