Election watchdog needs a more fruitful English name
Re: “Democracy groups launch their own election watchdog,” Front page, October 10.
I don’t want to be a space hog in this column, but the Free, Fair and Fruition Election watchdog would bark more clearly if it got its English right.
“Free” and “fair” are adjectives, so the third word in the series also ought to be an adjective. “Fruition” is a noun. It would also be nice if that third adjective could alliterate with “free” and “fair”.
The word the group is looking for is “fruitful”.
Let’s hope that the Free, Fair and Fruitful Election watchdog lives up to its name. We wouldn’t want to have to call it free, fair and feckless.
