Ian Martin makes a good point when he notes that what really gives meat its taste is the flavourings – not the meat itself. And you can put those flavourings on plant-based food.
I’d like to make the following suggestion to any vegetarian organisation that might be interested: Why not hire some volunteers, blindfold them and then give them what they think is a McDonald’s hamburger. But first remove the meat and see if any of the volunteers can tell the difference. I’d be extremely curious to know the results of such an experiment.
