Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Bt320m reservoir to be completed in 2022

Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Bt320m reservoir to be completed in 2022

THURSDAY, June 20, 2019

A Bt320-million project to develop a 1,000-rai reservoir in Nakhon Si Thammarat to provide enough water for four villagers will be completed in 2022, a deputy director general of the RoyalIrrigation Department said on Thursday.

Thaweesak Thanadechophol visited the Thung Thap Nai project in Tambon Laem in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Hua Sai district.
The project was initially aimed at preventing flooding by having the reservoir absorb flood water.
Thaweesak said his department has received complaints that Moo 4, Moo 7, Moo 8 and Moo 9 villages did not have enough water for daily use and farming so the Tambon Laem Administrative Organisation sought the budget for further digging the reservoir, pumping stations and 30km irrigation pipes to the four villages.
Thawee said his department has received the budget of Bt320 million for carrying out the project from the 2019 fiscal year and the project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
He said the 51st Army Engineering Battalion has been assigned to carry out the project.
As part of the project, the battalion will dig the bottom of the reservoir to be four metres deep throughout and the battalion will also build 4.5-metre earth embankment with a 25-metre width around the reservoir with a length of 6km.
He said six pumping stations will be built.
Once completed, the project will be able to irrigate 6,500 rai of rice fields and 100 rai of vegetable fields in the four villages throughout the year, Thaweesak added.
