Police on Sunday morning arrested nine Myanmar migrant workers allegedly involved in a Saturday night brawl in Bangkok that led to one compatriot’s death and injuries to five others.

A brief video circulated widely online showing 20 men fighting with knives and metal pipes near a poultry slaughterhouse on Soi Pridi Phanomyong 44, Khlong Ton Nua sub-district, Wattana district.

Khlong Ton police superintendent Pol Colonel Suthep Chanasit led a team investigating the incident and found 37-year-old Yar Zar dead with four knife wounds to the torso, along with five injured compatriots who were taken to hospital.

Police learned that two rival groups both working at the slaughterhouse had a heated argument on November 9.

Saturday night was their second confrontation and proved deadly.

By 2am, five hours after the brawl, police had rounded up nine people allegedly involved in the fighting – four from the victim’s side and five from the rival group.

All maintained their innocence, but they were charged with engaging in a fight leading to death.
