Grab wants e-wallet service in Thailand, after Singapore launch a couple week ago.

Grab plans to provide GrabPay e-wallet in Thailand next year. The firm has gain revenue growth of 150 per cent year-on-year.

Tee Wee Tang, head of Grab in Thailand said that the firm is in the process of submitting the GrabPay e-wallet for a license so that it could provide the service in Thailand next year. The firm provided it new GrabPay e-wallet services in Singapore starting last week. The GrabPay e-wallet would enables users to transfer funds to another person with a Grab account, either via a phone number or QR code. Moreover, users would be able to do offline transactions or offline payments with merchants in restaurants and shops.
The firm this month also expanded its services in Surathani and Songkha provinces to support local users and travellers.
Grab now provides on-demand transportation and mobile payments platforms in seven countries – Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Thailand also has high potential for growth He said that the firm also launched the “GrabTaxi Smiles Campaign” to emphasise its market leadership as a taxi ride-hailing app of choice, contributed to the country’s transportation development and has been used by Thais for over four years.
The new campaign would introduce a new set of benefits to improve GrabTaxi driver’s livelihoods, with the aim of increasing their happiness and, in turn, lead to a better quality of services for passengers.
He said Grab started in 2013. Now tens of thousands of taxi drivers in Thailand are on the Grab platform, representing 150 per cent average year-on-year growth. With Grab’s digitised transportation platform, the majority of taxi drivers earn 39 percent more on average than the national average monthly wage, while passengers can enjoy access to safer, more convenient and reliable taxi service. Tang says the “GrabTaxi Makes Thais Smile” campaign is literally true, “as we have always committed ourselves to solve local transportation issues and bring about the best benefits for passengers and the Thai taxi driver community”.
“As a locally incorporated and registered Thai company, Grab is also committed to support Thailand’s ongoing efforts to provide safer and more convenient transportation service,” said Pita Limjaroenrat, executive director, Grab (Thailand).
“What we want to do is to build a seamless shared mobility ecosystem that everyone can benefit from. To achieve that, we see our driver-partners as the heart of our shared vision. For us, they are more than just drivers but the frontline of growth and change. Taxi drivers are also important contributors to Thailand’s public transportation ecosystem and it is our goal all along to improve their lives,” said Pita.
As part of the “GrabTaxi Smiles” campaign, Grab is introducing a new set of benefits and welfare for their drivers under three schemes: Happy Taxi, Thank you Taxi and Taxi We Care.
