Two Lao men arrested with 100kg of marijuana in Nakhon Phanom

Two Lao men were arrested on Wednesday night after they allegedly transported 100kg of marijuana across the Mekong River to the bank in Nakhon Phanom’s That Phanom district.

The two suspects were identified as Xek Gingsard, 19, and Ae Jaloenthad, 21, both from Pakxe in Laos’ Champsak province.
Acting on a tipoff, a team of border patrol police and naval Mekong Protection personnel in Ban Kuppuang village in Tambon Nam Ka spotted the two suspects arriving on a long-tail boat.
The two were arrested when they were about to carry two bags of marijuana onto the bank of the river to be picked up by Thai buyers, the authorities said.
The officials said 100 bars of marijuana weighing 1kg each were found in the bags.
The two said they were hired by a Laotian man for Bt10,000 to deliver the drugs. They said they have smuggled the drug across the river twice, the authorities reported.
