Truck engulfed by fire on Saraburi road

The driver of a ten-wheel truck managed to escape after his vehicle went up in flames on a road in Saraburi’s Nong Kae district late Sunday night.

Police said the truck, which was fuelled by six NGV cylinders, caught fire on the Bangkok-bound Phaholyothin Road in Tambon Nong Khai Nam.
Six fire engines managed to put out the blaze before the gas cylinders exploded.
The fire caused the road to be blocked, leading to a four-kilometre trail back of vehicles.
The truck driver, Nattapol Ngernchatuchak, 24, told police that he was transporting cement from Saraburi’s Kaeng Koi district to Bangkok, when a passing motorist in the opposite lane signalled him and shouted to him that his truck was on fire.
Natapol said he quickly moved into the left lane, parked and jumped down from the vehicle.
He said the fire might have been caused by a short circuit in the engine’s combustion chamber.
