Semi-built motorway needs more warning signs: highways chief

Semi-built motorway needs more warning signs: highways chief

WEDNESDAY, May 08, 2019

The Highways Office in Nakhon Ratchasima has instructed a construction contractor to erect signs warning motorists against using the semi-built motorway to prevent accidents, said office director Pornchai Silarom on Wednesday.

On May 5, a 60-year-old man sustained slight injuries when driving his Toyota pickup on the unfinished Bang Pa In-Nakhon Ratchasima motorway and fell into a six-metre hole in Ban Kud Noi, Sikieo district.
Pornchai said the driver side would pay Bt10,000 towards the road damage after the contractor initially demanded Bt20,000.
The contractor used a crane to remove the damaged truck.
The highways chief said there was confusion about a 2km stretch of road and more warning signs were needed.
The 100km motorway was 70 per cent complete and was expected to be in use by the end of 2021, Pornchai said.
