Myanmar worker apprehended over fatal stabbing of compatriot in Pathum Thani

Myanmar worker apprehended over fatal stabbing of compatriot in Pathum Thani

MONDAY, February 04, 2019

A 26-year-old Myanmar worker was arrested late Sunday night in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district after allegedly stabbing to death a male compatriot in his late 20s, who he claimed had attacked him after getting drunk.

Ye Myo Thwin, who worked at a chicken abattoir, was apprehended in possession of a blood-stained knife by good Samaritans shortly after the incident, police said on Monday.
Police, who received a report of the killing at 11.30pm, rushed to the three-storey dormitory building in Tambon Khlong Neung’s Soi Khlong Luang 54, along with a medical examiner and rescue workers.
They found the Myanmar worker’s body, which had sustained five stab wounds to the torso, lying face-down on the second-floor staircase, while the suspect’s room on that floor showed signs of a struggle having taken place.
Ye Myo Thwin told police via an interpreter that he had been drinking alcohol since 7pm in his room with his compatriot and another friend, who had later gone home.
He claimed that his fellow Myanmarese, after becoming drunk, had started to damage his belongings and punched him in the face.
He therefore pulled out a knife in self-defence and stabbed the man.
Pol Lieutenant Korakot Sornnikorn said the suspect had been taken in for further questioning at the precinct, while forensic police gathered evidence from the scene.
Meanwhile, the body had been sent for autopsy to Thammasat University Hospital, he added.
