Temperatures beside the Mekong River in the northeastern province have plunged to a chilling 15 degrees Celsius, drawing out large numbers of local residents for morning exercises.
The Nakhon Phanom weather bureau said the mercury had dropped to 15C near the Mekong in Ban Paeng, Tha Uthen, Muang and Than Phanom districts, partly because of cold, gusting winds.
Nakhon Phanom governor Sayam Sirimongkol forecast the temperature could drop to 10C before the year was out.
He said the Nakhon Phanom provincial administration would launch measures to attract tourists to the province’s picturesque Mekong riverbank.
