Residents on banks of Moei River brace for floods

Residents along both sides of Moei River in Tak’s Mae Sot district were warned of flash floods on Sunday, as the river was rising close to the “red alert” level near the first Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Tambon Tha Sai Luad, provincial disaster prevention chief Kittisak Boonchan said.

Earlier the weather bureau had warned residents in upper Thailand of possible flooding on Saturday and Sunday triggered by tropical storm Bebinca.

The storm had moved from upper Thailand into Myanmar on Saturday afternoon. Rivers and canals in several provinces have been swollen by days of heavy downpour and many households and farmlands face the threat of flooding.
