Phuket on alert for flash floods amid heavy rains


Phuket Governor Norrapat Plodthong expressed concerns of possible flash floods following heavy rains in the province.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department Office, from Saturday until Wednesday the southwest monsoon will affect the Andaman Sea as well as the whole west coast of southern Thailand.ins with isolated heavy downpours are expected in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang and Satun. People should beware of flash floods,” the governor warned.
“Tour boats should be very careful as waves in the Andaman Sea could be up to 2-3 metres high together with high winds and “Torrential rain. Small boats in the Andaman region should stay ashore for the next few days,” the governor said.
“Local administration offices are prepared with manpower and rescue equipment 24/7, especially in the risky areas that commonly suffer from floods and landslides. Everybody should keep tuned to the weather forecast updates closely,” the governor said.
