Tak residents again protest plans for waste-treatment plant

Residents of a tambon in Tak where a 250-rai industrial waste-management factory is planned arrived at city hall in 20 trucks on Monday.

The residents of Khlong Huai Sai and Nong Preu in Tambon Noang Bua Tai camped outside while their spokesman, Suparoj Phromthab, submitted a letter to the province’s governor, Charoenrit Sanguansat, objecting to the project.
PDI Tak Eco, a subsidiary of Padaeng Industry, applied for a licence early last year to build the plant. It hopes to commence construction by mid-2019 and have it in operation in the second quarter of 2020.
But residents protested outside city hall soon after and submitted their first formal complaint to Charoenrit.
According to the company’s website (www.pditakeco.com), public hearings on an Environmental Impact Assessment are scheduled for March 22-May 1 and relevant state agencies and householders are to be consulted from May 1-27.
