Former assistant district chief drowns in Nakhon Si Thammarat

A former assistant district chief was found drowned in a pond on her rubber plantation in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Thung Song district on Thursday in what is believed to be a suicide.

Relatives of Nikit Boonkong, 60, went looking for her after realizing they had not seen her for hours. They found her body in the pond at the plantation near Moo 7 village in Tambon Thiwang.
Nikit was staying with her 85-year-old mother after she went into an early retirement programme two years ago.
Nikit had been assistant district chief of Trang’s Rassada district. Her husband, Boonsong Boonkong, used to be the district chief of Trang’s Na Yong district before dying several years ago,
Nikit’s relatives said the woman developed severe depression after she retired and spent most of her time at home.
