October 6

7.30pm - The second generation of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders announce a plan to block entrances to Parliament building in a bid to prevent the Somchai Wongsawat-led government from declaring its policies to Parliament.

8pm - Sirichai Mai-ngam leads more than 5,000 PAD demonstrators along the Uthong Nai Road.

8.30pm - PAD guards are stationed at the Phichai Intersection.

9pm - Thousands of PAD demonstrators successfully gather in front of Parliament. Up to 30 tents are erected.

9.40pm - Somchai says it is the police duty to ensure public order. The premier says he will declare the government's policies on October 7 as scheduled.

11pm - Somchai convenes an urgent Cabinet meeting at the government's temporary office inside Don Mueang Airport.

October 7

1am - The Cabinet meeting ends. All Cabinet members leave with a grim face and refuse to talk to the media.

2am - Chavalit meets National Police Commissioner General Patcharawat Wongsuwan and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt-General Suchat Muenkaew.

6am - More than 1,000 policemen confront PAD demonstrators at Parliament building.

6.15am - Police use tear gas to disperse the crowds.

6.45am - Police successfully clear Rajvithee Road to let MPs enter Parliament. The police action sends 106 people to hospitals, many of them with serious injuries.

10am - Democrat MPs resolve not to attend the Parliament session. The opposition party also withdraws its support for the establishment of the Constitution Drafting Assembly.

10.58am - The Somchai-led government announces its policies to Parliament. About 320 members of Parliament are present.

11.30am - PAD demonstrators clash with policemen at Royal Plaza. Many PAD demonstrators also surround the Metropolitan Police Bureau. Both sides fire tear gas at each other.

Noon - PAD demonstrators use buses to confront police at the Karn Reun Intersection.

12.10pm - PAD demonstrators hurl urine bottles into Parliament building.

12.30pm - PAD demonstrators close all entrances/exits at Parliament building.

1pm - House Speaker Chai Chidchob ends the parliamentary session soon after Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat finishes announcing his policies.

1pm - PAD demonstrators clash with over 1,000 policemen on Uthong Nai Road. Many policemen are injured.

1.30pm - Somchai and his MP daughter Chinnicha climb over a wall to get into Vimanmek Mansion.

2.30pm - Chavalit resigns as deputy prime minister. He does not agree with the use of violence.

3pm - A helicopter airlifts Somchai and his daughter out of Vimanmek Mansion.

3.15pm - PAD demonstrators block Sukhothai Road, Phichai Road, and Rajvithee Road, effectively barring MPs and senators from leaving Parliament.

3.30pm - Riot police move into Rajvithee Road and gather in front of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University while PAD demonstrators are stationed in front of nearby Suan Dusit Rajabhat University. Tear gas is used.

3.40pm - A number of MPs and senators started climbing the wall into Vimanmek Mansion.

3.45pm - A Cherokee jeep explodes in front of the Chat Thai Party headquarters. The body of an unidentified victim is found next to the vehicle.

4.15pm - Tear gas is used at the Karn Reun Intersection. All PAD demonstrators are dispersed. About 20 were injured. A 5-year kid was hospitalised because of tear gas.

4.50pm - MPs and senators leave Parliament building.

5pm - PAD demonstrators regroup and hit back at the police. They ram a pickup into policemen, injuring about 10.

5.30pm - PAD demonstrators open fire on police. All policemen there, including the injured ones, back off into Parliament House.

6pm - A six-wheeled truck tries to run over a group of policemen at Karn Ruen Intersection. Policemen fire back.

6.50pm - Police fired tear gases to about 500 protesters in front of Metropolitan Police Bureau. After the smoke died out, two of PAD demonstrators lost their legs while another lost an arm.
