Safety first for Loy Krathong

Safety first for Loy Krathong

The Consumer Protection Board (CPB) yesterday warned Loy Krathong revellers they risked causing fires or injuries if they played with fireworks recklessly or in crowded places.

CPB secretarygeneral Niroj Charoenprakob added that many venues would be decorated with balloons filled with the flammable hydrogen, which were a fire hazard if people decided to light fireworks nearby.

Pol MajGeneral Anan Srihiran, the city's deputy chief of crime prevention, has instructed Metropolitan Police Area 19 chiefs to report to headquarters by today on the public safety measures in place for the November 2 festival. These will include inspections of firework factories and patrols of officers on the look out for people behaving irresponsibly with fireworks.
