Narre, so far I have just managed to pick up a few phrases in Thai. I have two obstacles, one is the written language, which I intend to work on when I return to England. The other is the structure of the language, I have learnt classical Greek and Latin, and modern French and German, I was taught syntax as seperate from vocabulary; verbs, nouns, adverbs, adjectives etc how they decline and conjugate. My Thai friends are nice people but not very linguistically literate, so they often confuse me by contradicting each other over language use. My aim is to be able to hold a simple conversation by the time I return in September.

Ian, thanks for your explanation :). Surely there are many joyful things one can really get into. And it is not such a bad thing to be called "uncle". In Thailand kids call every kind man older than their father "uncle" anyway.
Have you ever taken a course in Thai seriously?

Narre, I phrased my last comment rather badly:-) I did not really mean a threesome, rather consecutive twosomes with more than one female. Sex is still an enjoyable past-time but the reality is increasingly more mental than physical. My biggest regret is that I have several grown up children but no grandchildren, not even the prospect of any at the moment, hence I tend to get involved with the young kids in my community. I have children in Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines who call me "Uncle" :-)

Hi Ian, it is not surprising that is more difficult with three at the same time. Naturally humans are made to be in pairs (meaning 2 at the same time -- per one time at least). Am I wrong?
Have you figured out how to get married without losing your money?

Narre, at my age I can only just about cope with one female in my bed, two would be the end of me:-)

Hi Ian, I am sure you will figure out the way to get a type of visa you want. Does the immigration department have a Thai language test? Or who carries out such a test? I guess a few hundred Thai words will be enough. Some countries in Europe do have such a requirement as well for permanent residency applicants.
I do not recommend you to have any Mia Noi or Gik (for your wallet will be empty much sooner!). Your girlfriend will prefer to be Mia not Mia Luang :). Of course you can have one if you are sure that she will never know it. We have a proverb "what you don't know does not hurt you". But believe me there is no such thing as a top secret. ;)

Messman and Narre, the Thai legal system is something I am still working out, here it seems you have two documents, Title deeds which refer to the land and a house book which refers to the house on that land. Now as I understand it I cannot own the land and hence have the deeds in my name. I could have the house book in my name but my girlfriend needs this in order to be able to vote, be one the register. At the moment both are in her name, but the land title document stays in my possession. In addition I have a legally registered lease. Incidentally, this is not because I don't trust my girlfriend but rather that I don't trust the way others (such as her relatives), might manipulate her when I am not around. Regarding visas, I think after renewing my visa continuously for three years, I can move up one step and seek residential status, again this is something I will investigate in time. I think one requirement is that one can speak Thai. Narre, yes men are rarely satisfied with just one woman, so perhaps you can answer this from a Thai woman's viewpoint; would a Thai wife prefer her husband to have a Mai Noi, or a string of constantly changing Giks? Not that I have either, just curious:-)
