Residents in Bueng Kan, Thailand are willing to fork out big bucks to get their hands on some wild mushrooms that only bloom once a year.
At one market, false earthstars are sold for Bt500 (US$15) per kilogramme, which is the highest rate in recent years.
This type of fungi can be cooked in various ways and is widely popular among residents living on both sides of the border.
Young false earthstars grow underground in loose soil in highly-humid jungles, mostly in the north and northeastern parts of Thailand.
