Demand for sugarcane juice triples during Ramadan

A sugarcane vendor in Narathiwat, Thailand is enjoying brisk business during the holy month of Ramadan.
The 27-year-old widow sells raw sugarcane juice with her family and claims that demand would triple during the fasting month, which is observed by Muslims worldwide.The mother of two would buy sugarcanes from a plantation for Bt10 per kilogramme.
She purchases between 3,000 and 4,000kgs of sugarcane per week.
Her family operates their stall near the Sungai Kolok Railway Station.
They usually earn some Bt3,000 (US$88) per day but during Ramadan, the amount has ballooned to Bt8,000 (US$235) while they sell out within four hours.
