At Dasada Resort, the flowers are the stars

With the cool season drawing to its inevitable end, flower lovers have only about two weeks left to enjoy the thousands of blooms showing off their magnificent colours at Dasada Resort in Prachin Buri province. Among those in full bloom right now are the Phalaenopsis or moth orchid, the gerbera, a type of ornamental sunflower, the chrysanthemum and the exotic anthurium and they really are a sight to behold.
A resort ideal for a tranquil weekend of luxurious relaxation against the backdrop of Khao Yai National Park, Dasaya is a good choice for families with both elderly and very young members.
Nestled in 1,000 rai and within two hours drive of Bangkok, visitors are welcomed at the entrance by the Phalaenopsis blooms attached to the trees, as well as several free-running chickens and birds on sentry duty.
At reception, we’re offered a roselle drink and complete the check in formalities to the pleasant sound of water being aerated in the lake surrounding the resort. The 82 rooms are divided into five types: Deluxe, Deluxe pool access, Grand Jacuzzi deluxe, Junior suite, and Lakeside Villas.
Our deluxe room is spacious enough to fit a large double bed and a comfortable daybed that easily transforms into a bed for our young son, a well-designed bathroom and a veranda to enjoy the gardens. The toiletries are all made of flower essential oil.
Patanachai Surawatanapongs, marketing manager, says that Dasada’s concept is “The Flower Es’sense Resort” inspired by the abundance of beautiful flowers in various forms and colours. “The resort was established about a year ago and at first we focused on exporting flowers to Japan, Taiwan, and countries in the Middle East. Our founder, Dr Pavares Boontanonda, is passionate about flowers especially the Phalaenopsis orchid and decided to expand the business, creating Dasaya for a special holiday getaway,” he notes.
Patanachai is not exaggerating. Most guests look forward to an early morning treat, when from 7 to -9am, Dasada’s plant nursery is open to guests.
Guests can choose to ride bikes or sit in the mini-vehicles to enjoy the delightful natural scenery. At the nursery gate, guests are asked to wrap their shoes in order to prevent disease and dirt intervening in the development of the flowers.
The Gerbera plant nursery is really worth seeing. This colourful species, imported from the Netherlands, is amazing. Thanks to controlled temperature and light, each Gerbera will be ready to cut alternately for two years.
A breakfast buffet is on offer at Mokara Cuisine, an all-day dining venue with a fabulous view of Khao Yai that features international and Thai dishes and well as culinary creations made from edible flowers. The marketing manager guarantees that the seafood served here is the freshest in the mountains, the result, he says, of the flower deliveries. “Very early every morning, our flower delivery vans go the centre of distribution at Mahachai, Samut Sakhon province. Instead of coming back empty, we bring fresh fish and prawns back every day,” he says.
While all the best flowers go for export, the arrangements in the resort and in each room are still extremely attractive.
“As they are the leftovers, they are a little lower grade,” Patanachai explains. “If guests want to organise any event here like a wedding ceremony or seminar, we can guarantee a good price.”
Kids will love the mini zoo, which is home to deer, sheep and lots of different bird species.
From Friday until February 17, Dasada Gallery is featuring the third in its floral exhibition themes. The work of flower designer, Pitak Hungsajara, “Pink Ocean” celebrates Valentine’s Day with a, romantic whale couple made up of numerous pink flowers.
