Wozniacki cooking ahead of Hua Hin date with Azarenka - and McIlroy
World No 1 Caroline Wozniacki took a Thai-cooking lesson at the Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort yesterday.
Under the guidance of an Intercontinental chef, the Dane learned how to cook local specialities including yam nua (spicy meat salad), tom kha gai (chicken soup flavoured with coconut and galangal) and moo thod priao waan (fried pork with sweet and sour sauce). Earlier, Wozniacki had taken a trip to a fresh market to pick up the ingredients.
The world No 1 is in Thailand to play the World Charity Invitational event on New Year's Day in Hua Hin. She faces world No 3 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in a match at the InterContinental Hotel's Centennial Park, with Thai tennis great Paradorn Shrichaphan due to take on US star John Isner as part of the same event. Proceeds from the Invitational, which will be broadcast live on Channel 3 from 5pm on January 1, will go to a fund for victims of Thailand's ongoing flood crisis.
McIlroy lands for first visit
Golf's world No 3 Rory McIlroy, accompanied by parents Gerry and Rosie, arrived in Bangkok yesterday for his first visit to Thailand. The US Open champion from Northern Ireland headed to join girlfriend Wozniacki at the beach in Hua Hin.
