Thailand take aim at Danes

Already out of contention for the title, Thailand are aiming to end their King's Cup campaign on a high when they take on defending champions Denmark at Rajamangala National stadium today.

The Thais' hopes of reclaiming the prestigious trophy in the four-nation tournament all but ended after their 3-1 opening loss to South Korea's under-23 team was followed by another reverse to Norway in midweek.

Arj-harn Song-ngarmsup, the national assistant coach, said his charges were targeting their first tournament points against Denmark, whose chance of retaining the title looks slim after two consecutive draws.

"It's very disappointing that we now have no chance to win the title. But some of our players have struggled with injuries, while the others are exhausted after a long season. That's why we have had to field so many young lads.

"We saw it as good opportunity to test those players and experiment with our system. For me, many of them did very well.

"Facing a strong team like Denmark, it will be very tough match. We have to be very careful when playing against superior opponents. We need to maintain our concentration for the full 90 minutes.

"Those players who look most ready for the game will be given a chance tomorrow. And we'll also look to hand young lads their first experience of international-level soccer. Even so, we still want to record our first win in the competition," said the veteran Arj-harn.

The Thailand v Denmark game kicks off at 7pm, and follows the title showdown between Norway and South Korea, both on four points from two matches.
