Feem targets more points at Silverstone
Having come agonisingly close to gaining points in Spain, Ratthapark "Feem" Wilairot is brimming with confidence for the British Grand Prix tomorrow.
After getting his campaign off the mark with a ninth-place finish in the French Grand Prix, the Thai Honda Gresini Moto2 rider narrowly missed gaining points two races in a row, finishing just two places outside the top-15 in Barcelona, Spain a fortnight ago.
However, the near miss only made Feem more determined to get his campaign back on track in the 600cc Moto2 division. Given his increasing confidence in the new Suter chassis, the Thai rider, who turned 24 in April, is targeting more points at the famed Silverstone circuit.
"Our lap times in Barcelona were not bad, but not strong enough. After about seven laps I lost the group and had 'chatter' problems with the front and rear.
"I understand the bike more in dry conditions now but we still have a lot to do. In England we always get rain so I hope the weekend goes well weather-wise.
"We are getting help from Showa with a new system on the front and rear shock and in general my feeling with the bike has improved a lot after the change of chassis. Hopefully we can get good weather and a good result this weekend," Feem told Gresiniracingmoto2.com.
Team owner Fausto Gresini said Feem only needed to find a little extra to take a points place in the sixth race of the season at Silverstone.
"Again in Barcelona Feem showed that he is easily able to finish in the top 15. He is making great progress and Silverstone should see him confirm his good form.
"He is improving his feeling with the bike and making constant positive steps forward. He just needs another push to break into the points in what is a very competitive category," said Gresini.
