Soldier killed, monk injured in South

Eight other Army men wounded in spate of attacks
One soldier was killed while a Buddhist monk and eight soldiers were injured in three separate terror attacks in different districts yesterday.
Two of the explosions were triggered by mobile phone.
In a dawn attack in Bacho, a home-made bomb went off next to a main road as Phra Lamun Thammasaro, 79, was begging for alms.
The monk and four soldiers serving as his security guards sustained serious injuries in the explosion. The attack occurred 500 metres from Bacho police station.
The four injured soldiers have been identified as Sergeant Theerawat Kamnonmuang and Wichan Nakan, Kwanchai Monlakon and Nunam Kumpuangmit, all privates.
Another explosion occurred near an Army outpost in Rangae as eight soldiers were heading off on patrol duty.
One soldier suffered shrapnel wounds, but the others escaped unharmed.
The two bombs were assembled in a similar manner, and contained about five kilograms of explosives and shrapnel. Both were concealed in metal containers.
In Rusoh, an Army outpost housing security guards charged with protecting teachers was ambushed by suspected militants in an afternoon attack.
Private Narongkorn Udong was killed in the firefight.
Three soldiers - Chatchapol Maneechote, Buali Chanhom and Dulsak Phetcharoen - sustained multiple wounds.
A team of 50 commandos was dispatched to try and track down the suspected militants behind the attacks. On Tuesday, an unidentified gunman shot a Muslim policeman while he was praying at a mosque in Rusoh. Senior Sgt-Major Ekkawit Dateh was admitted to a local hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to the hip.
In Yala, an assistant village headman died in hospital yesterday after he was shot the night before in Yaha district.
Karim Mamingjarong, 52, was sitting alone at a teashop when an unidentified assailant shot him.
