Pig-dung attack on Manager head office

December 3 , 2005 - Four men threw pig dung into Manager Media Group’s head office early yesterday morning while a fifth man assaulted a security guard, police said. Bunyarit Kuwiangchan, 49, a security guard on duty at the premises, said he noticed four suspicious-looking men, each wearing shorts, T-shirts and carrying white bags, who were accompanied by another man wearing a safari shirt.
“I asked the men what they were doing but they did not answer. One man stopped and told me to stay still,’’ Bunyarit said. The four then proceeded to throw the bags inside the building and when the security guard attempted to stop them the man in the safari shirt grabbed him around the neck. After the incident, the five men fled down Tha Phrachan Road, he added.
Pol Lt-Colonel Samrerng Songsiang of Chana Songkram police station said the suspects had committed the crime while police were deployed at Sanam Luang and Khao San Road, and that in future he would deploy more police to beef up security at the Manager’s nearby offices.
Responding to the incident, Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said it was the work of a group who wanted to see political instability in the country by creating rifts between people with different points of view.
“The PM said whoever committed such acts did not have the good intentions of the country in mind,’’ Surapong said.
Asked why such incidents were allowed to repeat themselves, he defended the police by saying that security had been increased since a recent grenade-throwing incident but they had yet to deploy officers at the Manager’s premises on a 24-hour basis.
The spokesman added that the government had been working to restore eroding public opinion by focusing on more social and economic achievements, which will be announced at the end of January. |
