November 25 , 2005 - Disciples of Luang Ta Maha Bua were involved in a fracas yesterday as a result of their support for Sondhi Limthongkul, who is in Udon Thani on a visit to see the revered monk.
Kayasit Chisit said he and a number of fellow disciples had attempted to remove a sign that was critical of Sondhi at a flyover outside Udon Thani Rajabhat University. “As we were trying to take down the banner, three men rushed at us and started hitting us,” he said. “One of them tried to seize my identity card.”
Kayasit said that the ensuing melee lasted for about 20 minutes before police arrived at the scene.
Several billboards have been posted around Udon Thani telling Sondhi to stay away from the province.
The controversial owner of the Manager Group is in the province on the invitation of Luang Ta Maha Bua to attend a meeting at the monk’s temple.
The monk has called the meeting to try and mediate in the war of words between Sondhi and PM Thaksin Shinawatra.
The premier declined the invitation, saying his busy schedule did not allow him the time. |
