November 23, 2005 - Three government MPs yesterday cancelled a mobile talk show, saying they no longer needed to counter government critic Sondhi Limthongkul, who has been gagged by a court order.
Wichit Plangsrisakul, Sithichai Kittithanesuan and Pracha Prasopdee were originally scheduled to host their show at the Imperial Samrong shopping mall on Friday.
“Sondhi is under a court order to stop making slanderous remarks against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and will be arrested for contempt of court if he continues his verbal assault this coming Friday,” said Pracha.
Sondhi is scheduled to host his weekly talk show at Lumpini Park this week.
Pracha also threatened to retaliate by exposing shady business dealings involving Sondhi should he refuse to comply with the gag order.
Meanwhile a retired military officer yesterday petitioned police requesting a quick decision about whether to open a criminal investigation against Prime Minister Thaksin for alleged lese majeste.
General Kittisak Ratprasert said in his petition that Ratchawang police appeared to have ignored his complaint against Thaksin filed last week. In his complaint, Kittisak said Thaksin might have offended the monarchy when he chaired a religious ceremony at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in April. He called for police to determine whether the prime minister had sought and received royal approval.
Kittisak’s petition was addressed to national police chief General Kowit Wattana and submitted via police spokesman LtGeneral Achirawit Suphanphaesat.
After meeting with Kittisak, Achirawit said police would comment on the Thaksin case once they had gathered evidence.
Kittisak said police were reluctant to indict Thaksin while investigating government critic Sondhi on three counts of alleged lese majeste.
