Introduction

The Chart Thai is the second oldest existing political party. It was formed during the period of full democracy after the student uprising in 1973 with a conservative/rightist ideology  when Thailand was facing a communist threat.

Initially, the party was established to protect the interest of its founders, rather than being as rightist guard against the left wing  but it also played a crucial role in campaign against the leftists.

The Chart Thai today is a coalition of local and traditional politicians such as Sanan Kachornprasart and is not an ideologybased political party. The party can shelter all kinds of politician who share the same goal in fighting for power. The party has its stronghold in the central region of the country.
