As the oldest existing political party in Thailand, the Democrats have a developed a stronghold in the South and is widely supported by the middle-class in Bangkok.
People from the South have been flooding into the party since the Chuan Leekpai took over as leader and then filled in the post of party adviser. It is due to this strength in the South, that the party is regarded more as a regional entity rather than a national one. This is also why the Democrats have very few supporters in the North and the Northeast. |
