Introduction

. Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana is one of the new political parties established in 2007 to contest the general election in December. The party is the merger of a political group called Ruam Jai Thai (Thai Unity), which consists of many well-known politicians led by former finance minister Somkid Jatusripitak, and the Chart Pattana Party, which is led by veteran politician Suwat Liptapanlop.
Both Somkid and Suwat are among the 111 former executives of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party who have been stripped of their electoral rights in the May 30 landmark ruling by the Constitution Tribunal. They appear to be playing low-profile roles in the new party.
