Chatchai’s legacy dilemma

Admirers of late prime minister Chatichai Choonhavan in Nakhon Ratchasima might be finding it hard to choose which of his heirs to support – son Kraisak Chonhavan or Suwat Liptapanlop.
Chatichai brought much development to Nakhon Ratchasima and the Chart Pattana Party he founded made the province its stronghold.
But when the party was affected by a political crisis, former party leader Suwat Liptapanlop decided to have Chart Pattana merge with Thai Rak Thai.
When Thai Rak Thai was dissolved, Suwat helped establish the Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana Party.
Although banned from the election, Suwat is confident Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana will win many seats in the province.
However, he might have to factor in the fact that Chatichai has another heir – his son Kraisak who has joined the Democrat Party.
Kraisak is a partylist candidate for Zone 5 – which includes Nakhon Ratchasima. Kraisak has also claimed that people in the province will vote for him for the sake of his father.
If Chatichai was still alive, who would he support? Would blood be thicker than water?
