Actor to run for PPP in Phang Nga

Veteran actor Prompong Nopparit believes it’s time for him to serve his hometown as a politician – after living in Bangkok most of his life.

The 45yearold is a new face who will contest the Phang Nga constituency for the People Power Party.
“I’m a Phang Nga person. I had to leave home to study in Bangkok. However, I always thought that one day I would have to return home and help develop the province,” he said.

Prompong earned a master’s degree in Public Administration.
Before turning to politics he was an actor, but the world of drama did not stop his dream of becoming a politician. Besides acting in plays, Prompong was involved in business and also assisted several political parties until the People Power Party asked him to join.

He said Phang Nga province needed development, especially in transportation and public utilities.

“Phang Nga is a tourism province like Phuket and Krabi – but when compared to both  Phang Nga is still underdeveloped,” he said, adding that if he became an MP he would try to improve tourism first.

Prompong knows southern provinces are not a base for the PPP, but he was optimistic about contesting the seat with his Democrat rival.

“I believe Phang Nga residents are clever enough. The previous elections proved the people chose candidates for both the government and opposition and understand the political system has to have administration and investigation,” he said.

He was not worried about running against a Democrat candidate, saying he was ready to be an alternative.
