Imagination and Knowledge

Once upon a time, the clever king administrated his city peacefully. He had wed with a perfect woman and had twin sons. The twins were so alike that almost everyone couldn’t distinguish. The king named them ‘Kuamroo’ and ‘Jintanakarn’

The time elapsed, Prince Kuamroo could speak very well. He talked to his parents, the king and the queen, and everybody clearly in the palace. But in the meantime Prince Jintanakarn couldn’t do this. Even if all and sundry tried to communicate to him, he only replied by a little smile.

When the two princes grew up, their ability and behavior evidently appeared. Prince Jintanakarn had the art talent. He could not only create many beautiful works of art especially drawing, but also play all instruments and compose melodious songs. But his speaking was still bad.

For the other Prince, Kuamroo, he was very different from his twin. He could double number 8,388,628 twenty-four times, the answer was 140,737,823,899,648, although most people still could not remember the problem numbers. As a genius mathematician, Prince Kuamroo also could memorize people’s name amply 121 names accurately.

The king was in doubt about the behavior of his twin sons. They were so much different. One was sensitive, feeble, and stupid but the other was enthusiastic, worrisome and reasonable. He thought they must have a big problem. Therefore he called the princes to see and discussed about this.

The two boys stood in front of the king’s face. One gazed at the father observantly, but one was inattentive. So the king sighed deeply and asked Prince Jintanakarn what the answer of one plus one was. The smiling prince said that the answer was one.

The other prince was alarmed and sorrowed about the ignorance of his brother, so did the king. The foolish prince saw the father’s attitude before he took an empty paper and started to draw something. The drawing showed that two heaps of sand totaled up to be one.

The king suddenly understood and had a big laugh.

Before the princes went out, the king ordered them to work. The two princes had to write a novel and let him see. Prince Kuamroo said yes but the other was harassed.

Prince Kuamroo returned to his bedroom and thought what he would write. The father did not give him any topics. Next day, he took a notebook and ran away from the palace to a small village. He entered an old house and saw an old woman. He did not tell her who he is.

The old woman gladly narrated him about her life. Then the prince wrote a story from this.

The king saw the story that his son wrote. He put it down on his office desk and looked at Prince Kuamroo. He told his son he wanted to see a novel, not a biography.

The prince did not understand how a biography and a novel differed. His father said he wanted to see whatever the difference was from imagination.

The brilliant prince was stumped very much. However he visited his brother telling him to send the father a novel.

“Tell him, send me before I die” said the king

Prince Kuamroo walked among paintings. He saw many strange pictures; human had wings, a human with the lower part like a fish, a horse had a horn and two wings, a bird had fire wings, and so on. He had never seen any pictures like this before.

The stumped prince looked at Prince Jintanakarn who had the similar face to his. His twin smile to him. This was the first time that he had gone to his brother’s residential building where he was surprised. Prince Kuamroo talked to his brother about this.

“Where did you see extraordinary animals in these pictures? I have never seen them before.” Prince Kuaroo said.

Fail-speaking Prince pointed at his head and tried to pronounce a word.

“Imagine”

The genius prince heard that and thought to the king remark. His father wanted him to imagine but he couldn’t, and wanted Prince Jintanakarn to write a novel. He knew his brother could not do that because it was very difficult for him even only speaking.

What was the king’s purpose?

Prince Kuamroo did not tell his twin the king’s remark. He backed to his residential building to contemplate about the problem.

Next two months the king fell ill. The palace was very disorder. People came to give moral to the king together. The two princes were so sad that they couldn’t do anything. They did not think that their father would ill…

When my mother told to this line, I was sleeping. Next morning I asked my mother about the end of the last-night story. She was glad to hear that I remembered and attained to the story. She promised to me that the story was going to end tonight before she chauffeured me to the genius encouragement school.

The teachers and the experts determined that I was a genius girl and tried to support me to the specific school. My ability was calculation. I could solve the very difficult problem easily. Even so my mother always saw me as a common girl, and I was happy to be so.

I waved a hand to my mother. She smiled to me.

At 9.05 p.m. after brushing my teeth, I was lying down on the bed and waiting for continuing the story…
While the king was ailing, the two princes were called to him. The king told them he nearly passed away. He wanted to appoint the heir to the throne. He said who could send him an imaginary novel the first one would be appointed…

My mother asked me, “Who do you think to be the heir?”

“I think Prince Kuamroo, he is very clever.” I replied

She laughed a bit and told the story on…

Prince Kuamroo was anxious about that. He surely knew he could not write it because he couldn’t imagine. So did his brother, Prince Jintanakarn had the foible about language. He could not write it either.

The clever prince tried to find a way to solve the problem. He thought to his twin. Prince Jintanakarn could do anything, except imagination!

Then Prince Kuamroo hastily went to Prince Jintanakarn’s residential buiding and asked him to tell an imaginary story. He thought that he and his brother should cooperate to compose a novel. If that were not the case, they would never accomplish.

The creative prince agreed with his twin and started to draw the pictures that were composed to be the novel. Meanwhile the brilliant prince wrote a story from the pictures that his brother drew.

Two weeks passed the novel was finished. The twins were very glad. They urgently sent to their father. After the king read the novel, he was very delighted. He wanted the two princes to write it together from the beginning.

Afterwards, Prince Kuamroo knew that the knowledge could go with the imagination. Even if he had the knowledge, he could not creative anything. Knowledge that separated imagination was not useful naturally.
Finally, the twin princes reigned together and the country was peaceful with happiness.

The story is end. I was dozing and questioned my mother,

“Is it true that the imagination is important as the knowledge?”

So she said, “Sure. If there isn’t the imagination, there aren’t the planes too.”

I was perplexed and asked, “Why?”

“Because Writhe brothers would not imagine that human can fly.”

I laughed and then I went to sleep with a good imaginary dream.

Nowadays there are the light bulbs because Thomas Alva Edison imagined that he could build the light. Due to Writhe brothers imagined they could fly, we have the plane to fly and go to the distant lands. Is it because of only imagination? It’s true that the imagination is important, and the knowledge is too.

The inventors could not have invented the things that they imagine if they had not got the knowledge to build it. Therefore knowledge is no less momentous than imagination. We ought to regard both imagination and knowledge.

Look at Thailand. Most Thai children’s imagination is blocked by many adults. Especially in the primary classrooms, the children are compelled to learn about logic. They study mathematics everyday but study arts only once a week in the meanwhile.

The teachers specifically delight the students who best at math, the subject that study about laws what the mathematician set. Many parents flog their children because the children’s grades are not good, but they never praise or support them at the ability of art.

Most children are afraid to raise their hands up when they do not understand the study because they think if they do, another student will ridicule them or the teachers will feel annoyed. This is the result of the wrong treatment. Many Thai children fear to do the different behavior.

They are afraid that the social will reject them. In the past Galileo Galilei was imprisoned because he disagree with another people that the earth was the center of the solar system, he thought the sun was. Eventually we know his thought is true without exception.

Furthermore, when Abert Einstein was a child, his teacher thrashed him because he did not calculate in accordance with the theorem of arithmetic. Afterward he resigned from the school and learned by himself at his house. Finally he became a very famous physicist and mathematician of the world. These show that the difference bring about the grand discovery. So the children should be brave to difference.

The parents should not obstruct the children’s imagination, not direct them, “You must do that,” or “You must not do that.” They should support the children both imagination and knowledge. Let them think and grow up with these two things.

Then you can see that the children will discover or invent the great value things for our world.
