Nine million vow to shun cigarettes

Runners carrying lists with the names of more than nine million smokers from all over the country who have pledged either to smoke less or quit altogether presented them to Deputy Public Health Minister Anutin Charnveerakul at Sanam Luang yesterday.

In his birthday address last year, HM the King expressed concern that health of the nation's youth was threatened by many factors, including cigarettes.

The presentation of the lists was the culmination of an anti-smoking campaign timed to coincide with celebrations for the 60th anniversary of His Majesty's ascension to the throne.
