HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is representing HM King Harald V of Norway. The Crown Prince is visiting Thailand with his wife, HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and their second child, the Crown Prince's first son Prince Sverre Magnus.
The Crown Prince is the only son of HM King Harald V and Queen Sonja. He became Crown Prince Haakon on Jan 17, 1991. Born on July 20, 1973, the Crown Prince received a BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley and later attended lectures at the University of Oslo and the London School of Economics. He alse completed the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' civil servant introductory course in 2001.

He is interested in arts, movies, drama, reading, music and outdoor sports. He is patron of many organisations in Norway involving music, art and health.
The Crown Prince married commoner and single mother Mette-Marit Tjessem in 2001, who has since been named Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The couple have one daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, born on January 21, 2004, and one son, Prince Sverre Magnus, born December 3, 2005. The five-month prince will visit Thailand with his parents.

The Crown Princess was born on August 19, 1973. She enrolled in development studies at the School of Oriental and African Study at the University of London and worked as a trainee in the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. At present, she is attending lectures at the faculties of arts and social science at the University of Oslo.
She is interested in art, culture and social issues. She has a strong social commitment and carries out charity work especially with children and women with HIV. She is now a special representative of UNAIDS.
The Crown Prince visited Thailand in 2004 with the Crown Princess and in 2005 on his own.

Norway's economy was considerably boosted by the discovery of oil and gas in the late 1960s. Only Saudi Arabia and Russia export more oil than Norway. The government is currently attempting to curb spending on the country's extensive welfare system. It is also planning for the time that petroleum reserves are depleted.
Norway and Thailand established formal relations in Nov 30, 1905 and have continued to maintain good relationships, from political to economic arenas.
