HM King Letsie III is the first son of King Moshoeshoe II and Queen Mother Mamohato Bereng Seeiso. He was sworn into the Office of King in 1990 when his father was in exile and abdicated in 1995 when his father was reinstated. Following his father's death in a car crash on Jan 15, 1996, King Letsie III was reinstalled as king. His coronation took place in Maseru a year later.
Born in July 17, 1963, His Majesty graduated with a BA in law from the National University of Lesotho and completed a diploma in law, development and agricultural economics from universities in UK.
Most of His Majesty's duties are ceremonial. He is interested in agriculture and child development. He is the founder of the Prince of Mohato Award for the young who do good deeds for society. He likes spending his leisure time visiting his family's cattle posts. His favourite sports are horse riding, squash, tennis and rugby.
In 2000, His Majesty married Her Majesty Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, formerly Miss Karabo Mots'oeneng, with whom he has two daughters, Princess Mary Senate Mohato Seeiso and Princess 'M'aSeeiso.
Her Majesty was born on June 2, 1976. She completed a diploma in education at Machebeng International College and studied science at the National University of Lesotho. She is patron of many organisations including the Lesotho Red Cross Society, SOS Children's Village, People with Disabilities and The Machabeng International College.
This is the first visit to Thailand of Their Majesties.
Kingdom of Lesotho:Located in southern Africa, totally surrounded by South Africa. The government is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. The country's major income earner comes from its exports of water and electricity to South Africa. Through the 30-year, multi-billion-dollar Lesotho Highlands Water Project, initiated in 1986, water is sent to South Africa's Free State and greater Johannesburg area. Lesotho and Thailand established formal relations on April 17, 1989. The two countries have a good relationship.
