Cabinet waives air-conditioner excise duty

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the waive of excise duty of air-conditioners with 72,000 BTU or lower to boost the competitive edge of local manufacturers.

Deputy Finance Minister, Pruttichai Damrongrat, said today that the waive would boost sales of the locally-produced air-conditioners.

He said the government would experience loss in revenue of Bt1.6 billion per year from the excise waive.

The government will ask 178 local air-conditioner makers to cut product price tomorrow in line with the excise waive.
