Medical Council awaits reply from Royal College over probe against Porntip

The Medical Council is awaiting opinion from the Royal College of Pathology before making its ruling on the ethic investigation against pathologist Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan.

Amnart Kusalanan, secretary-general of the Medical Council, said Noppadol Thammawattana has filed a complaint with the council to launch an investigation as to whether Porntip, acting director of the Forensic Science Institute, had breached the medical ethic related to her autopsy of Hangthong Thammawattana.

Amnart said a committee of the council was investigating the issue and it would take time as the panel would have to listen to opinions from two sides.

He said the opinion from the Royal College of Pathology was essential for the investigation, which would be completed within this year.

He said the committee would find out whether the autopsy carried out by Porntip was up to standard; whether she had honestly issued the certificate of the autopsy result; and whether Porntip's action had violated the autopsy standard of the Royal College of Pathology or not.
