Thai passengers safe in Karachi airport's siege

A THAI flight with 296 passengers, three of them Thai, was among the aircraft stranded at Pakistan's Karachi International Airport, which was closed after being seized by militants on on Sunday night.



The six-hour siege ended at dawn on Monday with all 10 militants dead as well as 14 victims including security personnel and airport workers.

The airline's statement said TG508 had arrived at Karachi Airport from Muscat and scheduled to leave for Bangkok at 11.50pm.

Following the attack, the Karachi authorities closed the airport for 24 hours. The passengers and the 16 crew were taken to safe reception rooms inside the airport. The aircraft is currently under strict security.
