The Criminal Court on Thursday rejected police's request to extend the detention of a rally leader arrested under the state of emergency.

The Court ordered police to temporarily release Sonthiyarn Chuenruethai-Naitham on February 17.
Sonthiyarn was arrested on Tuesday and police were allowed to detain him for a maximum of 30 days under Emergency decree but are required by law to request an extension every seven days.
The Court said seven days would be enough for investigation.
