Supinya opposes media shutdown

Supinya Klangnarong, a commissioner of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), voiced her concerns on media control under the martial law.

She is opposed to the order to shut down satellite TVs, saying TV or radio stations supervised by the NBTC are under the Constitution's protection.

"This could be viewed as violation of the freedom of expression, as guaranteed by Article 45 of the charter. Exercising power needs check and balance no matter who used it," she wrote on her Facebook on Tuesday.

Supinya, who refused to show up and report to the Peace and Order Maintaining Command as ordered, urged other NBTC commissioners to stand by media freedom and people.

She also urged the NBTC commissioners to try to find a way out for society amid the atmosphere that media was used as propaganda tools to create hate that could lead to violence.
