Sihasak Phuangketkeow, permanent secretary of the Foreign Ministry, decided to meet the editor of The New York Times yesterday because he said the media has an influence on people and should understand the situation in Thailand.

The foreign media should not say that the military seized power on May 22 because of anything other than maintaining Thai democracy. This meeting is a chance for us to provide them with details of the roadmap to reform Thailand,” he said.
