A member of Pathom Asoke, a Buddhist sect in Nakhon Pathom, yesterday ripped up a ballot card to show his opposition to the election.

Kayakayan Nawabunniyom, who dressed in a robe like those of the Santi Asoke sect, said his act was intentional to show he wished for reform before an election.
He believed that this election was neither lawful nor just. He added that he is a Buddhist priest, not a monk under the Supreme Sangha.
Thanyaporn Pengdee, director of district 1 polling unit 4, said that she understood Kayakayan wasn’t a Buddhist monk, but she didn’t know if he would be governed by the law stating that monks cannot vote.
